- I am using a (new) USR Sportster vi 28.8 internal and Win95. I have
- downloaded the new .INF file from the USR BBS and it seems to work OK
- for me. Here is my problem:
-
- I am trying to connect to my ISP, InternetMCI using standard Win95
- dial-up networking. There are two numbers I can dial, both with
- identical configurations as far as TCP/IP is concerned.
-
- One number is the 1-800 number. I get a clean 28.8 here (almost)
- every time. Of course, this number costs 10 cents a minute to use.
-
- On my local POP number, the modems fail to handshake ever. I know
- that they are 28.8 modems, but unfortunately MCI tech support could
- not tell me what brand.
-
- The modems continually repeat the same handshake sequence over and
- over again. This noise could be described as a "ping-pong" sound. I
- also hear this sound when connecting to other modems, but only once.
-
- Obviously, I'd like to be able to connect to the local number. I
- usually just set the modem to factory defaults (AT&F). I have also
- tried various combinations of:
-
- S32=6 (turn off V.FC)
- S32=22 (disable 33.6)
- S15=128 (V.42 off)
- &K0&M0 (EC off)
- S54=96 (something I read in this group... still not exactly sure what
- this is).
-
- Nothing seems to help... anybody have any ideas?
-
- Thanks in advance.
